“The Children's Encyclical. Re-Educating the World of Adults”. Environmentalism at the centre of modernism not Catholicism

We need to care for our common home, this mistreated planet of ours, with the more or less burdensome co-responsibility of all of us.” Pope Francis's preface to the book “The Children's Encyclical.”

“The Children's Encyclical. "Re-educating the World of Adults" (published by San Paolo) is a text dedicated to children, but also addressed to adults, and addresses the topic of ecology and the importance of caring for the planet and Creation. It is the new book by Father Enzo Fortunato and Aldo Cagnoli, with a preface by Pope Francis, who states: "Dear children, I embrace you, and know that your Pope and grandfather will do everything he can to ensure that you live in a beautiful and good world."

In the preface, Pope Francis urges a change of direction: "It is necessary to accelerate this change of direction in favor of a culture of care—like caring for children—that places human dignity and the common good at its center and is nourished by that alliance between human beings and the environment that must reflect the creative love of God, from whom we come and toward whom we are journeying."

And he adds: "A symbolic handover from adults to children is also necessary. We need to care for our common home, this mistreated planet of ours, with the greater or less burdensome co-responsibility of all of us. Only this paradigm shift, with children teaching and raising awareness among adults, can bring true hope for change.”

“The phenomenon of climate change insistently reminds us of our responsibilities: it particularly affects the poorest and most vulnerable, those who have contributed least to its evolution. It is first a question of justice and then of solidarity. Climate change also forces us to base our actions on responsible cooperation on the part of all: our world is now too interdependent and cannot afford to be divided into blocs of countries that promote their own interests in an isolated or unsustainable manner,” says Father Fortunato.

The Encyclical “Laudate Deum” was also recently published, which clarifies and complements the 2015 encyclical “Laudato si’,” in which Pope Francis returns to the theme of caring for the Earth, our “common home,” sounding an alarm and calling for shared responsibility in the face of the climate change emergency, before it is too late.
