Catholic website under pressure from authorities goes off-line

Hetzportal currently offline

The hate-purveying website, which is run by right-wing Catholics, currently seems to be offline, as Kathpress reported today, citing information from numerous Internet users. It is unclear whether this means that the site will end operation - the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" in this regard is skeptical. They believe that the site was taken offline temporarily, because the pressure from the authorities had become too large.

The operators of the blog, who publish anti-Semitic and anti-Islamic post and defame specific people, are being investigated by both the German and the Austrian law enforcement authorities. In Austria, about four weeks ago, an investigation of a complaint of racial hatred and re-engagement in National Socialist activities was started. The German Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution consider a threat to the constitution.

Diocese threatens with "serious consequences"
The blog excites great media interest because its critics claim that even official church representatives - among them are two active priests and one other person in Austria- work for the portal.

The Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Vienna, Nikolaus Krasa threatened at the weekend in the ORF magazine "orientation" all authors - should they prove to be employees of the diocese - "with serious employment law consequences".
