Church host for "Strolling Modern Art Reception"
As part of the "Strolling Art Reception" event series, members of the Catholic Academic Association, together with numerous art-loving guests, embarked on an inspiring journey of discovery – this time to the venerable episcopal city of St. Andrä in the Lavant Valley.
Cathedral and Parish Church of St. Andrä
The city, which was the seat of the Diocese of Lavant from 1228 to 1859, provided the perfect backdrop for an excursion enriching both in terms of art history and spirituality. Dean Magister Gerfried Sitar OSB guided the visitors with great expertise and enthusiasm through the cathedral and parish church, which was soothing not only with its history but also with its cool atmosphere on this summer day.
Contemporary art in the Church
A special highlight was the current exhibition of contemporary art currently on display in the church. Curator Manfred Mörth – himself a visual artist and resident of St. Andrä – provided insights into the development of an exciting collaboration between the municipal cultural initiative and the parish. The impressive exhibition brings together works by renowned artists from Carinthia and neighboring Slovenia, including Peter Krawagna, Ernst Gradischnig, Pepo Pichler, Walter Melcher, Lisa Huber, and many more.
An afternoon full of artistic inspiration, profound conversations, and stimulating encounters – entirely in the spirit of "strolling art reception," where seeing, marveling, and lingering go hand in hand.
