Feast of Blessed Giovanni Domenici
Giovanni Dominici, OP (English: John Dominic c. 1355 – 10 June 1419) was an Italian Catholic prelate and Dominican who became a cardinal His ideas had a profound influence on the art of Fra Angelico, who entered the Dominicans through him. Dominici originally encountered difficulties becoming a friar due to a speech impairment that his superiors believed would rule him ineligible for both profession and the priesthood.[4] Despite this, Dominici became a noted theologian and preacher and was tireless in establishing monasteries and convents in cities such as Fiesole and Lucca.[5] He attempted to resign his cardinalate in 1415 during the Council of Constance after he succeeded in convincing the pope to abdicate in order to end the Western Schism. The council refused to accept his resignation, though he had resigned from the archbishopric that he held. He spent the remainder of his life as a papal legate for Pope Martin V until he died in Buda.[4][6] He had been first named as a Blessed since 1622 though he had not been recognized as such until he was beatified on 9 April 1832

In Scotland, St. Margaret, queen, celebrated for her love of the poor and of voluntary poverty.
At Rome, on the Salarian road, the martyrdom of blessed Getulius, a noble and very learned man, and of his companions Caerealis, Ainantius, and Primitivus. By order of the emperor Adrian, they were arrested by the ex-consul Licinius, scourged, thrown into prison, and then delivered to the flames. But as the fire did not injure them, their heads were crushed with clubs, and they thus terminated their martyrdom. Their bodies were taken up by Symphorosa, wife of blessed Getulius, and reverently interred in a sandpit on her own estate.
Also, at Rome, on the Aurelian way, the birthday of the Saints Basilides, Tripos, Mandales, and twenty other martyrs, under the emperor Aurelian, and Plato, governor of the city.
At Nicomedia, St. Zachary, martyr.
At Prusias, in Bithynia, St. Timothy, bishop and martyr, under Julian the Apostate.
In Spain, the holy martyrs Crispulus and Restitutus.
In Africa, the holy martyrs Aresius, Rogatus, and fifteen others.
At Cologne, St. Maurinus, abbot and martyr.
At Petra, in Arabia, St. Asterius, a bishop, who suffered much from the Arians for the Catholic faith. By the emperor Constantius he was banished to Africa, where he died a glorious confessor.
At Naples, in Campania, St. Maximus, bishop and martyr. For having vigorously defended the Nicene Creed, he was sent by the same emperor Constantius into exile, where he died worn out by his trials.
At Auxerre, St. Censurius, bishop.
And elsewhere in divers places, many other holy martyrs, confessors, and holy virgins.

65 saying always in his heart what the publican in the Gospel said with eyes fixed on the earth: Lord, I am not worthy, sinner that I am, to lift my eyes up to heaven (Luke 18:13);

67 Having therefore ascended all these steps of humility, the monk will soon arrive at that love of God which, being perfect, casts out fear (1 John 4:18):
68 whereby all that he formerly observed not without dread, he will begin to keep without effort, as if naturally, out of habit;
69 no longer from fear of hell but for the love of Christ, from good habit and delight in virtue.
70 This God through the Holy Spirit will now grant his laborer to manifest, cleansed from vices and sins.
