Catholic Church builds multi-million Euro parish centre for St Peter and St Paul Church in Potsdam
The Catholic Church is building a new parish and community center on Bassinplatz in Potsdam's city center, costing approximately €7.2 million. The Archdiocese of Berlin announced this on Monday. The building is scheduled for completion by early 2028.
The new building is being built on a plot of approximately 650 square meters on Gutenbergstrasse, where a historic Dutch house previously stood.
The building permit for the centre, with approximately 940 square meters of usable space, is expected in June, it was further announced. Construction work is scheduled to begin in the fall. The building will be built based on a historical model in the style of the city's Dutch Quarter.
The parish and community center in the city centre will offer "services for the pious, the seekers, and those with doubt," it was announced.
The Catholic Church of St. Peter and Paul stands on Bassinplatz in Potsdam. It was built between 1867 and 1870 and features an almost 60-meter-high, Italianate bell tower.
This is what comes from having an addiction to the church tax revenues.
