" The Latin American Church feels honour, joy and closeness for the appointment of Tucho Fernández". Collegial raptures from the modernist establishment.
In their words, the Argentine bishops say they are "honoured that a member of this Episcopate has been chosen by dear Pope Francis for such an important service in the universal Church".
"We value his wisdom, his gifts, his pastoral experience."
"From his experience and contribution, the Church will be able to count on a sure guide to open paths of dialogue and reflection so that the deposit of faith may be a source from which the People of God are nourished to continue announcing Christ with joy and enthusiasm."
The Executive Committee of the Argentinean Bishop's Conference, formed by Archbishop Oscar V. Ojea, president; Bishop Marcelo Colombo, 1st vice-president; Bishop Carlos Azpiroz Costa, OP, 2nd vice-president; and Bishop Alberto G. Bochatey, OSA, secretary general, issued a communiqué on July 1 in which, in the name of all the bishops of our country, they congratulated Archbishop Victor Manuel Fernandez of La Plata on his appointment as prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith.
In their words, the Argentine bishops say they feel "honoured that a member of this Episcopate has been chosen by dear Pope Francis for such an important service in the universal Church."
Of the new Prefect, the Argentine Episcopate says that "we value your wisdom, your gifts, your pastoral experience and trust that, with the help of the Holy Spirit, you will be able, as the Holy Father himself expressed it: 'to present in a convincing way a God who loves, who forgives, who saves, who frees, who promotes people and calls them to fraternal service'".
Finally, the Bishops entrust Bishop Tucho, as he is known in the Church of the country, "to the maternal protection of Our Lady of Luján, patroness of our people".
Joy and closeness to CELAM
For its part, the Latin American and Caribbean Bishops' Council (CELAM) expressed its joy and closeness to the appointment, in a letter signed by the presidency, composed of Archbishop Jaime Spengler, president, and also by Archbishop Jose Luis Azuaje, 1st vice-president, Archbishop Jose Domingo Ulloa, 2nd vice-president, Archbishop Santiago Rodriguez, president of the Council for Economic Affairs, and Archbishop Lizardo Estrada, secretary general of CELAM.
From CELAM, they say they believe that "with [the experience and contribution of the new prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith], the Church will be able to count on a sure guide to open paths of dialogue and reflection so that the deposit of faith may be a source from which the People of God may be nourished to continue proclaiming Christ with joy and enthusiasm.
Cathcon: There won't be much left of the deposit of Faith once this guy has finished.
The text highlights the Magisterium of Pope Francis where the Church on the continent has found "the theological-pastoral paths that have led us to carry out processes of conversion through which we are still going through with the appropriation of the Ecclesial Assembly and the Synod of Synodality", seeing in the new prefect someone on whom to rely "to deepen discernment on the best way to respond to the call to be a Church going out to the peripheries".
Cathcon: What they are saying, thinking and praying behind closed doors is quite another matter.
