Church Night in Luxeuil: a cultural and missionary evening!

On Saturday 24 June, from 6.30pm to midnight, the Nuit des Églises (Church Night) will take place in Luxeuil. The evening will showcase the basilica, its history and its sacred character. Everyone is welcome. The event is the initiative of seven Luxeuil residents who will be taking part in World Youth Day at the end of July and beginning of August. They will be supported by volunteers from all over the deanery.

Through a variety of activities, you will be able to (re)discover this place steeped in history, marked by the passage of Saint Columban who left a rich legacy. A marathon of lectures and an exhibition on loan for the occasion from the Friends of Saint Columban association will give you the chance to find out more about the parish's patron saint and the Via Columbani, a European pilgrimage route passing through Luxeuil. Guided tours of the basilica will be offered, including one at 10pm, illuminated by candlelight. You'll also be able to hear a few notes from the basilica's major organ thanks to the presence of Elisabeth and Roland Muhlmeyer. Children and teenagers have not been forgotten. There will be activities for them too, including calligraphy and riddles.

The evening will also feature music with the participation of the local group La Fa Mi'Zik, who will be performing a concert to sing, move and pray. There will also be time for spiritual reflection, with a time of adoration at the end of the evening, the testimony of Fr Christophe Bazin on his baptismal vocation, and the stories of pilgrims... This year, it's the major pilgrimage routes that are being honoured by the Nuit des Églises, a national event that will be held in Luxeuil for the first time.

This evening has been conceived in a missionary spirit, opening up our churches. The Mission group of the deanery of Luxeuil will be on hand to welcome anyone interested in discovering the basilica. Food and drink will also be available to make the most of the evening. All donations collected during the event will be donated to the WYDistes to finance their trip to Lisbon this summer.
