Synodalist maintains that German Church has the same concerns as the Catholic Church
World Synod: "Similar questions are being asked in all regions".
Believers in the different regions of the world are bringing many similar concerns to the World Synod. Birgit Mock, Vice-President of the Central Committee of German Catholics, emphasised this in an interview with Radio Vatican. Mock was speaking on Thursday evening at an event on "Impulses from local churches for the World Synod" in Rome.
In conversation with us, the German lay representative expressed the view that the results of the Synodal Way in Germany are perceived in the universal Church as an important contribution. In Germany, she said, the starting point of the Synodal Way was clearly the serious abuse crisis that shook the Church. "Taking action against this is a great concern for us, and I have experienced that this is perceived worldwide, how important it is to tackle systemic causes here. Now we in Germany have reassessed many questions and are taking them to Rome in the hope that this can be the starting point for further consultations."
Together with Bishop Helmut Dieser, Mock chaired the Sexuality and Partnership Forum at the Synodal Way in Germany. In October, the first of two major Synods on Synodality will take place in Rome. Pope Francis had proclaimed the World Synod when the Synodal Path was already running in Germany.
"It is always the situation of women. It is always the question of participation."
During the preparatory meetings in all the local churches of the world, which served to listen to the people of God, a wide range of issues came up over the past two years. "But in all regions similar questions are asked," Birgit Mock explains. "It is always the situation of women. It is always the question of participation. It is always also the question of priestly ways of life that play a role there. That's why I think the questions are very similar, and that's what we also perceived in reading the paper "Make the space of your tent wide" from all over the universal Church."
