100 believers gather for vigil in front of the Franciscan Church in Ingolstadt

Numerous people gathered on the square in Harderstraße on Friday evening in support of the preservation of the Franciscan Church.

Probably about 100 friends of the Franciscan Church gathered in front of the church in Harderstraße in Ingolstadt on Friday evening to set a sign. A sign that Christian values and the almost 750 years of Franciscan activity are important and that a de-consecration - should it happen - will not be accepted in silence.

A wreath was laid in front of the church gate. "Franciscan Church - Unforgotten the time in your walls - You were home and place of refuge" was written on it. The speeches between the songs were also emotional.

Criticism of the Eichstätt diocese

"Despair and helplessness have paralysed us for days since the news that the church is to be desecrated," said Gabriele Haid. Harsh criticism was directed at the diocese of Eichstätt. Money and revenue are more important than people, they said to the applause of the participants.

Previously, on Friday afternoon, Martin Klepmeir and Klara Kun from the Franciscan Church Foundation sat down with Vicar General Michael Alberter, Head of the Department of Church Foundations and Building, Josef Heinl, Stefanie Bauer from Real Estate Management and the Press Department in Eichstätt.
