Opus Dei meeting in Rome to comply with Pope
Some 300 members of Opus Dei met in Rome from April 12 to 17 to reflect on the statutes of the Prelature and to adapt them to the motu proprio Ad charisma tuendum. This document, published in August 2022, asked the organization to reorganize itself within the framework of the new Apostolic Constitution. Ad charisma tuendum establishes as the main change the shift from the personal prelature of the dicastery for the Bishops to that for the Clergy. This means that the superior can no longer be a bishop. The motu proprio also obliges Opus Dei to present an annual report on its activities, whereas previously it was only required to do so every five years.
The purpose of the meeting will be to reflect on the best way to adapt the statutes of the Work. 126 women and 148 men, including 90 priests, took part in the extraordinary Congress. The work and conclusions of these days will be presented to the Dicastery for the Clergy. The Holy See will later communicate the final modifications to the statutes approved by the Pope.
The Prelature currently consists of 93,600 people, including 2,093 priests. 1,957 priests incardinated in various dioceses around the world also belong to the Priestly Society of the Holy Cross.
