Our Lady of Fatima decapitated in attack on Church

Val-de-Marne: A church vandalised and a statue of the Virgin Mary decapitated

The church of Saint-Martin, located between the communes of Orly and Choisy-le-Roi (Val-de-Marne), was vandalised and desecrated this weekend. The damage was discovered this Sunday morning before mass, reports Actu Val-de-Marne.

The damage was numerous: a statue of the Virgin Mary was decapitated, several desks broken. The floor was littered with various objects as if the interior of the church had been ransacked. Money was also stolen.

An investigation is underway to find the vandals

The tabernacle containing consecrated wafers was also stolen. "The church was not vandalised but desecrated," the Diocese told Le Parisien, which relayed the information on Wednesday.

The parish priest has filed a complaint with the police and an investigation is underway, the Créteil prosecutor's office confirmed. According to the first elements of the investigation, the vandals came during the night of Thursday to Friday as well as during the night of Saturday to Sunday. The deputy mayor of Orly Alain Girard denounced these "villainous" acts.
