Historic Dominican sermons to be preached again in Vienna for Lent. Savaronola lives!

Now here is a good idea!

"Old but Gold"- Dominican Studentate revives historical sermons

Young Dominicans from the Vienna Studentate, the house of study of our two German-speaking provinces (Teutonia Province and Province of St. Albert in Southern Germany and Austria), will bring historical sermons to life in the pulpit. These are (among other things) Lenten sermons from eight centuries of the Order's history.

On six dates during Lent, the Dominican students invite interested people to the church of S. Maria Rotunda for the project "Old but Gold". First there will be a short introduction to the respective historical sermon and its author. Afterwards, the sermon - some in full, some abridged - will be spoken from the pulpit (about 20 minutes). Those who wish will have the opportunity to discuss the sermon with the Dominicans in the Huttnersaal, Postgasse 4.

At 6 p.m., everyone is cordially invited to join in the celebration of the Vigil Mass (6 p.m.) in the church.

Background

"Since the sermons we are presenting are historical ones," explains Frater Dominicus Maria Armbruster, co-initiator of the offer, "we are curious about the reactions related to sermon style, choice of words and content. We hope that the thoughts found in the centuries-old sermons will still reach people today."

Spoken from the pulpit

What is also special about the "Old but Gold" project is that the historical sermons are spoken from the pulpit. The pulpit in the Dominican Church of S. Maria Rotunda on the north crossing pillar was built in 1698/99 and is an eye-catcher in the renovated church.

Registration for "Old but Gold" is not required.
