German Chancellor criticises Pope on SSPX and supports a clear statement on the matter

Holocaust-Debatte: Merkel fordert Papst zur Klarstellung auf

Angela Merkel puts on the pressure: The Chancellor has asked the Pope for a clear statement in response to criticism of the withdrawal of excommunication against the British Holocaust denier Richard Williamson. Merkel said it was usually not her task to evaluate internal church decisions. But this was about the current debate about the denial of the Holocaust and fundamental questions of the relationship with Judaism. "Therefore one cannot stand still about the matter without consequences," said Merkel.

"The point is that it should be very clearly stated by the Pope and the Vatican that there can be no denial," said Merkel. This clarification was needed from her point of view as it "has not yet been done properly."

Let me get this straight: the Pope is supposed to keep this nut out of the Church and, at the same time, reign him in, is that it? But now, the Pope is wrong because he's allowed the nut back in to the Church obviously in order to keep him under control, chastise him, and get him in step more with the current values of the Church, but that isn't good enough. Do I have this right?

Is Merkel just hysterical and so politically-driven that she can't stop the screaming voices in her head and surrounding her long enough to get a grip?

Man, talk about some folks demanding a pound of flesh to satiate them. Good on the Pope! I wish he could tell them all to go to Hell! And until now, I didn't give a damn about the Pope, but I appreciate anyone who knows where his house begins and ends and how best to control it.
