Rumours persist in the Vatican because of the dispute surrounding the rehabilitation of Holocaust denier Richard Williamson: Even a Cardinal of the Curia admits that errors have occurred.

Curial Cardinal Walter Kasper acknowledged failings in the Vatican on Monday and complained of communication problems. Kasper, who serves in the Curia, as President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and is responsible for the relationship to Judaism, said: "There were certain errors made in the management of the Curia - I want to say that very explicitly." He added: "Vatican staff have not discussed matters with eachother sufficiently and no longer checked from where problems can arise ."

He observed the current debate with great concern, "said the cardinal. At the same time, he pointed out that there can be no talk that the four bishops of the Society of St Pius are "now in full communion with the Catholic church." They are still suspended
