1) I meant that a crown of twelve stars on blue (Marian colour) is traditional Marian symbology, so while it may resemble the EU flag, that is (unless you have specific information to the contrary) either coincidence, or the makers were no great artisans and therefore took the EU flag as a template for this Marian symbol.
2) As for the founding fathers of the EEC, I am quite surprised at your judgement. I of course agree that the Church today is fatally without influence upon the EU. That, however should not be blamed on the founders.
The diocesan phase of the process of beatification of the Servant of God Robert Schuman has been finalized and the process is currently pendent at the Roman congregation. See: http://catholique-metz.cef.fr/index.php?doc=dossiers/20040601_dossier_schuman/20040601_dossier_schuman
As for Konrad Adenauer, he might not have been in the same degree personally virtuous, but I don't think reasonable doubt can be cast at his Catholicity: There is the anecdote that when the German undersecretary for foreign affairs listened in upon his audience with Pius XII, he heard the Holy Father reply: "But Herr Bundeskanzler, I already am Catholic!" (Aber Herr Bundeskanzler, ich bin doch schon katholisch!").
