Last pause before the conclave: the "Bergoglians" are finalizing the profile of the Pope who will continue the path initiated by Francis

This Sunday, there will be no general congregations. On Monday, there will be two  (morning and afternoon). Many cardinals will take advantage of the opportunity to preside over Masses in their assigned parishes in the Eternal City. Some will offer key insights in their homilies. Others, the majority, will wait. Meanwhile, meetings are taking place, inside and outside the Vatican. With a different perspective: since yesterday, the "Bergoglians" seem to have emerged from their lethargy and are beginning to impose the style of the next Pope, who will necessarily follow, with "prophecy" and "courage," the steps taken by Francis. This was stated in the official summary of the congregations, where hardly any details were given. A glimmer of hope for those who still believe that the Parolin option will enter the conclave as the winner. We shall see.

A scene in the square

For now, there is already a model pontiff. Now, all that remains is to find the candidate(s). And to do so knowing that everyone is watching. A case in point is the Eighth of November, with a strong presence of religious life, which has managed to organize a true tribute to Bergoglio, with the full participation of women, as never before since the Pope's death. Sister Simona Brambilla (named by Francis Prefect of the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life) , the great forgotten (there is no doubt that, had he had time, Francis would have named her a cardinal, and even if she didn't enter the Sistine Chapel, she would have been able to participate in the pre-conclave. Becciu and Cipriani are doing it, despite everything...), reading a lecture. The President of the UISG and the Secretary General of the USG are the protagonists, getting the cardinals to listen. And Artime's coda, one of those closest to Francis, who gave a speech that combined continuity and openness. Who knows if...

As we left the Mass, Father Ricardo Blázquez accompanied us, affectionate as always, very happy with Artime's Mass and with "his" nuns, whom he will visit before Sunday. Cristóbal López Romero, the other Spanish Salesian, emphasized the "strength" of his companion and encouraged RD and his readers to continue: "I know I can count on you."

Night falls in Rome

Pizzaballa, the first to leave, to the acclaim of the crowds, upright and tall, blessing many. Zuppi, calmly leaving, driving a modest white Fiat. The Superior General of the Jesuits, Arturo Sosa, SJ, chatted animatedly with Czerny before greeting us and laughing heartily at the question of whether he felt the same impulse as others after the Artime Mass. There were more smiling faces than before, although everything is still to be won.

Last night, there were many dinners, conversations over coffee and a beer. More people are participating in these gatherings than those who attend the evening Rosary at St. Peter's. Because the Spirit is also in the culinary arts/ This Sunday, pay attention to some Masses, and especially to some subsequent meetings. Monday, a double session, seems decisive, to reach a consensus that will allow spring to continue to reign, Urbi et Orbi.
