For the opening of "775 - WESTFALEN. The exhibition" and the ceremony to mark the anniversary year "1250 years of Westphalia" which was broadcast live from Paderborn Cathedral on Thursday, 15 May 2025 at 6 pm.

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and the Minister President of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hendrik Wüst MdL, will take part in the ceremony.  Archbishop Bentz was also present in the audience.

Background to the anniversary year:

Together with the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (LWL), the LWL-Kulturstiftung 2025 is celebrating the anniversary of "1250 years of Westphalia" with a diverse cultural programme of art, history, literature, music, cabaret, culinary delights, podcasts and more. The occasion for this is the first mention of Westphalia in a report in the Frankish imperial annals for the year 775. 44 cultural projects, which together are being funded with around 3 million euros, are dedicated to the history of Westphalia and current questions of identity, origin and belonging in numerous events. The exhibition "775 - Westphalia" at the LWL Museum in the Kaiserpfalz in Paderborn will be the central project from 16 May 2025, inviting visitors on a journey through the centuries. The cultural programme for the anniversary year 2025 "1250 Years of Westphalia" is under the patronage of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier
