Argentinian bishop avoids apologising to abuse victim
"It is annoying that the Bishop has never shown his face."
The victim of the outrages who denounced the priest Renato Rasgido also complained about the lack of statement on the part of Luis Urbanc. Furthermore, he assured that he trusts in Justice.
The young man who denounced the priest Renato Rasgido for acts of sexual abuse is annoyed by Bishop Luis Urbanc for not having “shown his face” to ask for forgiveness for the outrages he suffered. The victim commented that he is still waiting for an apology from the highest authority of the Church of Catamarca.
“We expect a (request) for forgiveness from the Bishop, who is in charge of the entire Church. That he has never shown his face and (seek) to continue hiding things, that things are delayed, is a tremendous anger that I have as a survivor,” he said in an interview that he gave to the press. The young man also spoke about his feelings after hearing the news that the trial against Rasgido will begin on December 4 of this year. “Only last night (Thursday), when I was calmer, I was able to react. It didn't fall to the ground. After 10 years of struggle, suffering, crazy things, many things that I think about today, after having received this news,” he added.
The young man also expressed his desire to come to the debate and “leave that backpack in front of the Court” to “live a little in peace.” “I trust in Justice, in the Court. I want him to pay for all the damage he did against me and against many people who couldn't speak. “I need you to pay for all the damages,” he continued.
According to him, after the start date of the trial was confirmed, he received messages of support from friends, colleagues, family, and acquaintances. “They can't wait for me to feel a little freer,” he said.
These days, while he waits for the debate, he tries to be accompanied by his father, daughter and friends. “At work I can't relax because I'm alone, I travel alone, and that's where all the moments of Wednesday come to mind. I don’t feel good remembering all those things,” he explained.
He also reported that, sometimes, he feels bad emotionally and tries to “get ahead” to continue living “day to day.”
Complaint
On October 12, the plaintiff lawyer in the case against Rasgido, Silvia Barrientos, had expressed herself in the same vein as her assistant.
“The Bishop would have to ask for forgiveness and that is not being felt. It is an added bonus of pain, humiliation and subjugation of the rights of these victims of ecclesiastical sexual abuse. “I ask the Bishop to publicly apologize to those victims for the sexual abuse of priests,” she emphasized.
The lawyer indicated that the victims of ecclesiastical abuse are still waiting for an apology from Urbanc. “At a global level, the Pope (Francis), wherever he goes, asks for forgiveness for sexual abuse committed by priests, but this request for forgiveness on the part of the Bishop is not being made known, which makes people lose their confidence in their faith,” he added.
Debate
The trial against Rasgido will begin on December 4 in Criminal Chamber No. 2. The Court will be made up of judges Miguel Lozano Gilyam, Silvio Martoccia and Luis Guillamondegui.
