And their was darkness drawn over the Synod proceedings
World Synod won't share interim reports publicly, they will only go to Synod secretaries
Pope Francis had called on journalists to "abstain from public pronouncement " at the World Synod. The Vatican now announced a measure that will further seal off the proceedings - unlike past synods.
The World Synod of Bishops meeting at the Vatican plans to be more compartmentalised in its proceedings than previous synods. Vatican communications director Paolo Ruffini announced on Thursday that at the end of the first week of deliberations, the interim results of the working groups would not be made public. They would be passed on exclusively to the Synod secretariat.
At previous World Synods of Bishops in the Vatican, the interim reports of the Working Groups, the so-called circoli minori, had been published. In this way, the media and the public could follow how the debate on certain topics developed and what compromises were reached.
Ruffini asked the media representatives accredited to the Vatican for understanding for the restraint in communication. He referred to the words of Pope Francis, who the previous day had asked journalists to "abstain from public pronouncement" for the duration of the Synod.
