WYD DJ priest's controversial opinions on sexuality and homosexuality come as no surprise

Father Guilherme Peixoto became famous this summer for waking up the 1.5 million young people at the Vigil with the Pope by playing techno music at 6am before Mass.

The similarity in profile is disturbing

This Portuguese military priest has his social networks full of videos and photos in which he appears DJing at a multitude of events and places. Universally known as the 'DJ priest', he has some controversial personal opinions.

In an extensive interview in 2020 with Maluco Baleza, the priest talks and gives his opinion on moral issues, more specifically on sexuality and sodomy.

From the 43rd minute of the interview, he reveals that he does not like to discuss sexuality during confession. "I like it to be done clearly, yes, but without describing", explains the Portuguese military priest.

It is important for each person to know whether or not the act committed eliminates the dignity of the human being. And from there it depends on the personal forum of each person. It does not have to be the Church that intervenes. In fact, there is a book coming out that I think is inspired by Laudato Si', which is about caring for nature, the environment, integral ecology, looking at the world as a whole, people, animals, nature, and safeguarding the world as a whole. At one point, Pope Francis says that food and sexuality are blessed by God".

The DJ priest acknowledges that "many of the more conservative Catholics didn't like it and didn't share it, but if sex helps strengthen love, it must be good".

The interviewer asks Father Guilherme the following question: "Let me put the question the other way around. If someone practises an act of sodomy in agreement with his partner, and even with some violence and perhaps... What would be the correct term? Some naughty things... unconventional and Catholic in this sense... if, in his conscience, the person who carries out this act has no feeling of guilt and does not think that his dignity has been violated, he should not feel... it's OK".

The priest replies: "I think so. I think so because the love between them has been strengthened, everything that happens in the bedroom is personal. The Church does not have to get involved in people's personal lives. The interviewer retorts to the Portuguese priest by saying that for a long time it was "exactly the opposite". The DJ priest concludes by responding ironically by saying that "they loafed around a lot, they didn't have much to do", alluding to the Church.
