Demand for women's ordination or diaconate not unanimous which is fortunate because it is not possible

Nathalie Becquart: Demand for women's ordination not unanimous

There is a need for more women in church leadership positions, the nun said. However, many Catholic women did not demand the ordination of women.

The question of more participation of women in the Church is being asked all over the world, according to religious sister Nathalie Becquart. Among other things, Becquart talks about this in an interview in the upcoming issue of "Tagespost". However, the demand for women's ordination or the diaconate is by no means unanimous everywhere, according to the nun. "Catholic women are very different and do not have the same priorities and views," says Becquart.

Women and men lead better together or Rule of the Nun

In many countries, for example, women primarily demanded that the Church work alongside women to combat violence and discrimination. Becquart stressed that she favoured more women in church leadership positions. "Everywhere where men and women lead as a team, better decisions are made," the nun said. Certain changes, however, could not be decided by one or more groups or even one country.

Experience of the universal church

According to Becquart, relationships must be at the centre of evangelisation. Structures are not unimportant, but they do not come first. "First of all, it is about the spiritual attitude of the preachers of the Gospel and a conversion of heart," says the religious sister. Her experience has taught her that it is the deepening of the personal relationship with Christ and a conversion of heart that brings momentum to evangelisation.

In an interview with the "Tagespost", Becquart talks about her vocation journey and in particular the women who inspired her along the way.
