Two protests against Princess Gloria von Thurn und Taxis
Protest and adhesive action: Castle Festival in Regensburg disrupted
Two protest actions accompanied the start of the Regensburg Castle Festival: Around 300 people demonstrated in front of the castle against controversial statements by Gloria von Thurn und Taxis. In addition, a climate activist stuck herself to the stage.
Climate activists from the group "Last Generation" have disrupted the premiere of the Regensburg Castle Festival. Shortly before the performance of the Mozart opera "The Magic Flute" was to continue after the interval on Friday evening, a woman glued herself to the wooden panelling of the stage. She gave a speech and was booed and jeered by the audience.
Climate activist at festival stage addressed the audience
"I would really like not to interrupt you, I would very much like to be able to just enjoy this as well," the activist shouted. "But the federal government is breaking the Basic Law and we can't just go on demonstrations, that's not enough anymore." Security forces detached the stage section after a few minutes and carried it away along with the woman.
Shouts by more activists
Shortly after the performance continued, three more members of the group "Last Generation" rose up in the audience and disrupted it by shouting. The opera had to be interrupted for a few minutes. "What is an enchanted world when the real world is on fire?" the "Last Generation" wrote on Twitter while the disruption was still going on. As the police announced this Saturday, the four people are being investigated for trespassing, among other things. After the police had taken their personal details, the activists were allowed to leave.
Also on Friday, climate activists of the Last Generation had blocked roads all over Germany, taping themselves to the roadway in cities such as Munich, Berlin, Leipzig, Dresden and Braunschweig.
Demo against controversial statements by Gloria von Thurn und Taxis
Before the start of the Castle Festival there had been another protest: About 300 people demonstrated in front of the St. Emmeram Palace. Their protest was directed, among other things, against controversial statements made by the hostess, Gloria von Thurn und Taxis, including on the subject of homosexuality. The demonstration was organised by the youth of the German Trade Union Federation (DGB) in the Upper Palatinate.
The participants held up signs with slogans such as "For a Regensburg with glamour and without Gloria" and chanted "Refugees stay, expel Gloria". Critics accuse Gloria von Thurn und Taxis of homophobia and racism, among other things. In spring there had been a call to boycott the festival.

From the advertising for the demo
In the meantime, the arch-reactionary Catholic has unmistakably become a right-wing propagandist and activist who tries to make politics with conspiracy-ideological narratives.
conspiracy ideological narratives - which also include a good portion of anti-Semitism. She has long been known for anti-abortion ideology, racism or queerphobia as a fan of Gerhard Ludwig Cardinal Müller and Donald Trump. But for some time now, at the invitation of ex-Bild boss Julian Reichelt, who was sacked for abuse of power, she has been blasting all kinds of ultra-right-wing lunacy onto the internet in his YouTube format on an almost weekly basis. Reichelt, a culture warrior, provides Thurn und Taxis with keywords that she unabashedly and unquestioningly dresses up in conspiracy myths.

Gloria von Thurn und Taxis sees protests as a waste of time
At the Regensburg Press Club on Wednesday evening, Gloria von Thurn und Taxis had previously expressed her regret about the call for a boycott and the announced demonstrations. She said the protests were a waste of time. She sees no point in protest and boycott, especially since the Festival with its stars and shows is a "win-win situation for everyone". She does not see that "anything positive" is happening with a boycott. You take something away from the people. If - according to von Thurn und Taxis - "a couple of unshaven guys" were standing at the castle, it would also be "not exactly funny" for the guests of the castle festival.
National and international stars on stage
Gloria von Thurn und Taxis is not the organiser of the festival, but acts as patron. In addition to the "Magic Flute", the programme includes concerts with Giovanni Zarrella, Simply Red, Jonas Kaufmann and Eros Ramazzotti.
