Cable Car Confessional

During the Deanery Mass last Friday, the new cable car confessional was presented in Bad Ischl at the foot of the Katrinberg.

The idea is simple but innovative: "In this special cable car, passengers will be able to make confession in the presence of a chaplain. The 15-minute ride from the valley to the mountain station is perfect for this," says Katrin Cableway Managing Director Johannes Aldrian. The idea bears the motto "Time to talk" and arose in a few conversations with Father Christian Öhler on the sidelines of a rainy mountain mass four years ago. "Six months ago, Father Öhler approached me again and we began to turn the project into reality," explains Aldrian, who is Protestant himself but has a very good relationship with the Catholic priest.

"You don't have to make a confession"

All those passengers who now fear they will have to make a confession if they catch exactly the gondola in question can be reassured: "The cable car is visually easy to recognise [see photo] but of course there won't always be a chaplain on hand and it is a completely normal mountain ride. Otherwise, of course, you can wait for the next cable car," Aldrian explains. He continues: "We are still thinking about how we can deal with possible reservations." More details will be discussed tomorrow, Tuesday (21 October), but until the end of the summer season on 11 November there are not many possible dates left for this year in any case.
