Cardinal Toribio Porco Ticona's secret marriage revealed

Prelate's nephews confirm 30-year-old union and announce legal action

Cardinal Toribio Porco Ticona's nephews have confirmed the existence of a secret marriage of the religious man that took place approximately 30 years ago. According to the relatives, the cardinal married in 1992 when he was bishop of the north of Potosí, and a son was born as a result of this union. They also revealed that the prelate currently lives with his wife and son in La Paz.

The news of the marriage came to light after the publication of a marriage certificate in the Bolivian Civic Registry Service (Serecí) by the newspaper Página Siete. However, the cardinal has denied the authenticity of the document, claiming that he was never involved in any civil union and that it is a forged document.

In a brief statement due to his delicate state of health, Cardinal Toribio Porco Ticona said: "That document is forged, I have not signed anything in any Civil Registry. I did not marry anyone". He also announced that he would take the corresponding legal steps to clarify the situation.

The marriage registration documents, which have been corroborated by the media, indicate that the ceremony took place on 31 December 1992 at the official registry office in the town of San Antonio de Condoriri, in the Cercado province of the department of Oruro.

One of the cardinal's nephews, Salustiano Arriola Porco, confirmed the veracity of the information and the existence of the documents. In an interview with Bolivisión, he said: "My uncle married more or less 30 years ago, when he was bishop of the north of Potosí. He has a son, he is my first cousin. They are currently in La Paz, they are looking after the Cardinal. The information is true, the documents are real.

Tomás Arriola Porco, another nephew of the Cardinal, revealed details of how his uncle met his wife and how the family reacted when they found out about the marriage. According to him, the cardinal met his wife in Uncía, where she worked as a cook for the family. However, when the family's grandmother discovered Toribio's nocturnal outings, a scandal broke out in the town in 1987.

Faced with the versions and speculation that arose, Cardinal Toribio Porco Ticona issued a communiqué in which he reaffirmed that the information about the supposed marriage does not correspond to the truth. He also denounced that there are third party interests behind these accusations and announced that he will take the necessary legal steps to protect his reputation and his name.

The revelation of this secret marriage has generated great controversy in the religious sphere and has raised questions about the implications this could have on the position and leadership of Cardinal Toribio Portillo in the Church. It is expected that in the coming days more details will be known about this situation and the legal action that the prelate will take.
