Rosary prevents sacrilegious concert in France

Carnac: the Breton faithful have repelled the merchants of the Temple

Barely 672 years later, the new battle of the Thirty has taken place. Thirty Breton faithful, praying at the northern entrance of the church of Saint Cornely in Carnac - and inside - prevented the profane and profanatory concert from taking place. At around 11.05pm, the Mayor of Carnac had to decide to cancel the concert in front of the gendarmes.

The worshippers then calmly left the venue. For more than half an hour, at the call of the Breton sections of Civitas, they had been reciting the Glorious and Sorrowful Mysteries, massed under the north porch.

In the audience, some of them shouted against the "fachos" and implored the gendarmes to use their "tear gas" or to "check the identities of the blockers".

"We calmly argued that a church is a sacred place and that this type of concert should not take place there, whatever the intention," said a faithful member of Carnac.

"Dominique [le Quernec, the parish priest of Carnac] did not want to listen to those of us who expressed our reservations, thank you to these young people for reminding us that it is not he, Dominique le Quernec, who is in charge, but God. A church is not a concert hall or a discotheque, it is a sacred place", confided an older faithful who was on the square.

Moreover, the 1905 law does not say anything else: a church must be used for worship, full stop. It is neither a secular concert hall, nor a dormitory for migrants (especially since the presbyteries of parish priests who prefer to let migrants sleep on cold slabs are often better heated and more comfortable), nor a contemporary art museum...

It is a Church, therefore a sacred space.

With calm, faith and determination, thirty Bretons recalled this.

Carnac en direct: Faithful prevent desecration concert

Several dozen faithful from Morbihan prevented the profanatory concert in the Church of Saint Cornely in Carnac by reciting the rosary at the entrance.

For the moment, the confrontation between the organisers, about fifteen spectators and three municipal police officers remains peaceful.

The Diocese of Vannes did not know that a church is a sacred place - the Bretons took it upon themselves to remind them.

10:20 pm: 4th Sorrowful Mystery, still no concert. The municipal police have entered the church where the faithful have settled in and are praying.

10:22 pm: Father Dominique le Quernec, the Rector of Carnac who authorised this profanatory concert, says that the Faithful are "making a racket at night and profaning the church".

10:40 on

The gendarmerie is there.

The situation is gradually becoming tense.

Waiting for a decision on whether or not the police should intervene.

The decision is up to the prefect.

The local press is there.

About fifty people in the square and as many praying, inside and outside the church of Saint Cornely in Carnac.

The faithful are still praying.

Around 11:15pm the Mayor announced to the gendarmes, several times, that he was cancelling the concert. The announcement of the cancellation of the concert was made coram populo on the square of the church, and the faithful left the place calmly.
