French diocese does not care whether the Celebrant of Mass is a priest
Rumours are circulating in the Dioceses of Western France. Another Eucharistic scandal could be looming on the horizon, unfortunately already full of liturgical errors which continue indefinitely in France.
Not necessarily the Diocese involved |
Here are the facts. Their sources are very close to the case, but they have requested anonymity, so much so that the "soft terror" still reigns quietly in the Diocesan clergy today.
On the occasion of Holy Week, a celebration of the Lord's Supper had been planned in a Catholic school under contract. In view of the project presented by the school's chaplaincy, the local parish priest, who had been asked to preside over this service, had refused to accept it, since it was so different from the liturgy and the Catholic faith. He even felt it his duty to alert the Diocesan authorities, basing his argument on a solid knowledge of theology.
He had been given every assurance by the authorities to make the necessary corrections. This did not happen. A permanent deacon was delegated in his place. According to eyewitnesses, this deacon endorsed the planned liturgical errors, but, even more seriously, he substituted himself for the absent priest and pronounced the words of consecration.
Let us be clear. This is a very serious error. Canon 907 states: "In the celebration of the Eucharist, neither deacons nor lay persons are permitted to recite the prayers, especially the Eucharistic Prayer, or to perform the acts proper to the celebrating priest."
It is the priority of the diocesan bishop, after establishing the truth of the facts, to sanction such an offence by inflicting a punishment in accordance with the law. The intervention of the Congregation for the Sacraments is possible.
The authorities of the Diocese, alerted, seem divided between denial and suppression. Each side kicks the ball and blames the other.
The Catholic Education Department sees no problem. According to a well-tested technique in Trotskyism and marketing, the "whistle-blower" priest is now the object of a campaign of denigration on the pretext of his "bad character", his "inability to collaborate with the laity", and other nonsense.
As for the incriminated deacon, some wonder whether powerful family connections will not allow him to escape the legitimate consequences of the very serious acts committed, and of a more than dubious theology well known in his Diocese.
What decisions will the local ordinary make? Will he suppress and deny, as usual? It is to be feared. The future will tell.
Cathcon: Pretence is a tool of modernism. We have pastoral assistants, pretending to be deaconesses, who will then pretend to be deacons. Above is the precedent for the final pretence of deacon for priest.
Pope Francis says liturgical abuse is a thing of the past. Nonsense on stilts whoever states it.
