Ecumenical Garden Show Mass for Pentecost

Pentecost with Bishop Gerber and "Bishop" Hofmann at the Regional Garden Show

23.05.23 - The Protestant Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck (EKKW) and the Diocese of Fulda invite you to an ecumenical service on Whit Monday, 29 May, on the grounds of the State Garden Show in Fulda. The service, jointly organised by Bishop Dr Beate Hofmann and Bishop Dr Michael Gerber, will begin at 12 noon at the so-called "sky tent". The service will be musically supported by a trombone choir under the direction of Marshall Lamohr, the EKKW regional trombone director, and by the Fulda Youth Cathedral Choir under the direction of Franz-Peter Huber, the cathedral conductor.

Whether on the garden show grounds or in the city: the Protestant and Catholic Churches will be present during the State Garden Show in Fulda. For them, the public magnet is a good opportunity to come into contact with different people and to show themselves as relevant actors in the middle of society. The Protestant and Catholic Churches will take advantage of this opportunity at the State Garden Show in ecumenical diversity.

The Protestant Church is offering a colourful programme at the State Garden Show under the motto "There I blossom". It will not only be a meeting and event place, but also a "place of blessing to blossom" and gather strength, where people can receive God's blessing at any time. The Catholic Church in the Diocese of Fulda is a guest there with ecumenical events. Under the title "Surprisingly Diverse", it also offers a complementary programme of spiritual and cultural events in the city, for example in Fulda Cathedral and in numerous church and monastery gardens. In this way, the State Horticultural Show and the city centre will be linked and guests as well as people from the region will be able to experience the church in many places.

More information on the programmes can be found on the internet at: www.da-bluehe-ich-auf.de and www.lgs.bistum-fulda.de.

There will be further ecumenical services at the State Garden Show on 19 July, 13 August (Family Service) and 3 September (Ecumenical Creation Service with Bishop Hofmann and Auxiliary Bishop Diez).

Keyword: Pentecost

Pentecost is the third major festival in the church year after Easter and Christmas. The name comes from the Greek word "pentekoste" (the fiftieth), because the feast of Pentecost has been celebrated 50 days after Easter since about the end of the fourth century. In memory of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on people described in the Bible, Pentecost is also understood as the "birthday of the church".

Due to the expected number of guests for the service on Pentecost Monday, the available seating will probably not be sufficient. The organising team recommends bringing seat cushions and sun protection.
