Papal liturgies: the Crucifix disappears

Piece by piece, Benedict XVI's "reform" was dismantled. At least the Crucifix placed on the altar seemed to be resisting the trend but from today's images (Palm Sunday) it appears to have disappeared. Indeed, he was also absent from Ash Wednesday. The last sighting seems to date back to January 22 in the basilica.

Debased and unworthy liturgy

P.S. it is true that according to the rubricists it is enough that it is at the side... but do you want to be a rubricist?

"Among the truly absurd phenomena of recent decades I include the fact that the Cross is placed to one side to leave the gaze free on the priest. But does the Cross, during the Eucharist, represent a disturbance? Is the priest more important than the Lord? "

(Joseph Ratzinger, Introduction to the Spirit of the Liturgy)

Cathcon: The Cross on the altar also represents the identity of the Sacrifice of each Mass with the Sacrifice on Calvary, save that the Mass in unbloody.  Remove it and it implies that intention to celebrate the Sacrifice is defective or even absent.
