Bishop demands pagan rites incorporated into Mass

The Diocese of San Cristobal, in southern Mexico, will send Pope Francis a proposal to include indigenous Mayan rites such as dance, music and the participation of women in Catholic masses. This is the second such proposal to come from the Catholic church community, the first being the Zairean rite.

The Bishop Emeritus of San Cristóbal de las Casas, Cardinal Felipe Arizmendi Esquivel, who is co-ordinating the work, explained to EFE on Wednesday that the proposal will be presented in April at the assembly of the Mexican Episcopal Conference (CEM) and in May it will be presented in Rome by the Archbishop of Puebla, Víctor Sánchez, president of the Pastoral Liturgical Commission.

These adaptations are aimed at uniting the communities "respecting their value, taking into account the culture of the original peoples", explained the bishop of San Cristóbal, Rodrigo Aguilar Martínez.

The prelates concluded a meeting in Chiapas this week, which was also attended by Aurelio García Macías, undersecretary of the Vatican's Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, as well as indigenous priests and catechists.

"We are working on a meeting that is important for the diocese, the country, the Church in Mexico and the universal Church in terms of liturgical adaptations", Aguilar Martínez pointed out. In this sense, he explained that in the diocese the Bible has already been translated into four indigenous languages and that Eucharists are already being celebrated in some of them.

These changes will benefit (Cathcon !!!!!!!) more than 2.2 million inhabitants, around 75% of whom consider themselves indigenous.

A fuller picture of the dire outlook below.  One of the reasons that they hate the Latin Mass so much is that it is not open to paganism.  When Pope Saint Gregory the Great told Saint Augustine of Canterbury to transform rather than destroy pagan altars, he can hardly have thought that the successors of both would seek to reverse the process.  I was very publicly critical of Rowan Williams at the time that he became an Archdruid.  The Catholic Bishop of Menevia opined that I was a bloody fool. But it was argued that it was just a bit of pageantry that really meant nothing, despite the pagan prayers that were said. 

Now we have paganism being incorporated into the Catholic Mass.  That is a whole new level of evil.  O what crimes are committed in the name of inter-culturation.  Rather the Catholic Mass is the source of culture, it does not need pagan culture imprinted on it.
