Head of German Bishops writes back to Rome

Synodal Council: Letter of the DBK President to Rome

Letter of the cardinals had been provoked. Georg Bätzing names the topics of the meeting at the opening press conference of the German Bishops' Conference. Sexual abuse and the Synodal Path are the focus.

At the opening press conference for the Spring Plenary Assembly of the German Bishops' Conference (DBK), the Conference President, Bishop Georg Bätzing, announced that he had sent a letter to Rome. A letter from three cardinals on behalf of the Pope had forbidden the Synodal Path and the Synodal Committee to establish a Synodal Council. In contrast, Bätzing stressed that this letter had been provoked, referring to the request of five bishops in Rome. He himself had now written a letter to the Vatican and emphasised that they had agreed to remain in dialogue with each other. He renewed this willingness. When asked by the "Tagespost", Bätzing announced that he would publish the letter. The Synodal Committee is to be launched at the next Plenary Assembly, said the President.
