"Your Excellency, do not publish your memoirs": a Bergamasque priest's desire for preventive censorship of Msgr. Georg Gänswein #benedettoxvi

On the affair of the book Nient'altro che la Verità (Piemme Editori, 2023), written by Msgr. Georg Gänswein and soon to be published (12 January), all that was missing was the little priest-professor who, with his little finger raised and with feigned humility (but with genuine arrogance and eagerness to take the limelight) claims to teach the Archbishop and Prefect of the Papal Household how to behave.

And so here he appears (unsolicited) on the scene: he is Don Alberto Varinelli, priest of the Diocese of Bergamo, born in 1984, inter-parish vicar of Telgate and Grumello del Monte since 2015.

From the blog La barca e il Mare - Chiesa e dintorni (The Boat and the Sea - Church and Surroundings) - which, scrolling through the website, seems to have as its reference Monsignor Alberto Carrara, former Episcopal Delegate for the Pastoral of Culture and Social Communications and old acquaintance, certainly not positive for our reeaders- the Orobic priest, evidently expert in the art of divination, rises as a preventive censor, publicly inviting His Excellency not to publish the memoir.

And why is that?

As ascertained by MiL's editorial staff - who were able to read it in full and in advance - the book contains relevant facts, always described with delicacy and clarity and with much respect. What, then, would Monsignor Gänswein have written that is false to merit such preventive censorship of a book that was clearly written some time ago, ergo probably (very probably) agreed with the Supreme Pontiff Benedict XVI?

Has Don Alberto Varinelli read the book (or rather, a radically different edition to the one in our possession) and can he claim that it contains falsehoods and lies?

The problem - according to the Bergamasque priest - is that in the book Monsignor Gänswein dedicates himself to "publicly attacking a confrere", i.e. Pope Francis, and this "constitutes a serious act". Assuming that there are such attacks in the book (and we don't think so, but WE have read the book...), on what planet outside our galaxy was Fr Alberto Varinelli living when, with hundreds of writings and interviews, bishops and even cardinals have ignobly attacked the Pope Emeritus for ten years (and, indeed, even before the declaratio of 11 February 2013)?

Yes, the bottom has indeed been reached.
