President of the Pontifical Academy for Life, appointed by Pope, thinks abortion law is a pillar of Italian life

Abortion,  Pro Vita & Famiglia: astonished by Archbishop Paglia's words

"The right intent," writes Jacopo Coghe of Pro Vita Famiglia in a statement, "of fostering an open, secular and shared debate on abortion and birth, urging the application of Law 194 also in the part of prevention and social protection of motherhood, cannot go so far as to deny the intrinsic iniquity of Law 194.

"This is why we were astonished by the words used yesterday, live on Rai, by the President of the Pontifical Academy for Life, Monsignor Vincenzo Paglia, according to whom Law 194 on abortion is "a pillar of our social life". We do not understand how a law that takes defenceless and innocent human lives can be a 'pillar' of society.

"It is precisely for this reason that we want to reiterate our gratitude to Pope Francis who, in clear and unequivocal words, has always ruled out the compatibility between a law on abortion, compared to the work of a hitman, and a society oriented towards peace and justice. The Pontiff himself, in fact, has repeatedly defined abortion as "a crime and an absolute evil", this is the comment of Jacopo Coghe, spokesperson for Pro Vita & Famiglia following the statements on abortion by Bishop Paglia.
