In fact, only since the Council has carnival been allowed inside church. Likewise animal blessings were never, as far as I am aware, done in church. Things get really out of control among the Protestants.

In France the lambs of villagers were brought into church to be blessed at the Easter vigil, to be slaughtered for the feast on Easter Day.
In Siena, the horses for the Palio were historically walked into church to be blessed before the race.
I am sure there are other examples.
