This isn’t actually accurate totally. For Islam to be understood as the largest religion you would have to overlook the divisions and sectarian factions that we would consider somewhat akin to “denominations”…. You have to add Sunnis, Shi’ites, and whatever else to come up with a larger population.
If you are looking for the largest SINGLE religous org, is is still the Catholic Church. If you are looking for the largest body of related faith believers (All Christian denoms versus all Islamic groups) Christianity is still bigger.
Catholicism did grow some 300M souls during the last 40 years… And I do believe more converts FROM Islam than TO Islam is in the very near future.
