Fire any ecumenical canon!

You would not have thought with a dedication to the Holy Spirit, a religious order could become so secularised but the Spiritans have. Cardinal Rode on avoiding this trap in religious life.

At the time of Vatican II, the Spiritans had 900 Irish members, now they are 300 (of which 100 are in their retirement home, and the remainder have a vastly aging profile. They used to ordain 25 a year, now they do not even ordain one a year.

The Catholics are to join the Dublin Council of Churches. Just one more Church among many in once Catholic Ireland.

The ceremony will take place in the Pro-Cathedral this evening 18th January at 8p.m. with the participation of representatives of the Coptic Orthodox, Greek Orthodox, Lutheran, Rumanian Orthodox, Presbyterian, Anglican, Georgian Orthodox, Syrian Orthodox, Methodist, Russian Orthodox and Unitarian Churches, the Religious Society of Friends and the Salvation Army as well as representatives of the Dublin Council of Churches.

Imagine the scene- you can't have a more clerical occasion than an ecumenical banjoree.
