Rechnung mit vielen Unbekannten
Bill with many unknowns.

The German domestic politics could shortly experience her next "Great Game"- a great game with many unknowns. In the event that Horst Koehler would seek re-election (as President of Germany), his re-election is uncertain. He owes his election to the Conservative/ Liberal majority in the Federal Assembly in 2004. This majority has shrunk after the elections in Hamburg, Hesse and Lower Saxony and the death of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) member of the Lower House in the Parliament, Johann Henrich Krummacher. Christian Democrats (the conservatives) and Liberal Party together have either 613 or 614 seats - an absolute majority is 613 seats. Furthermore, the Internet portal Wahlrecht.de has forecast: the Bavarian state elections coming in the Autumn give the CSU (Christian Social Union- Bavarian sister party of the CDU) 52 percent and the Liberal Party 6 percent (according to a recent survey), which would mean an additional four seats in the Federal Assembly. The projection would be that.

Step forward Head of the Protestant Church Wolfgang Huber- seen here with the Cardinal Archbishop of Berlin.
At the end of the article.

According to sources within Protestant church groups, Bishop Wolfgang Huber is very interested for the post. The President of the Protestant Church could switch from the church to the state but would only make it without damage if he was elected with a broad consensus. Within the CDU, Huber is not much liked. Another criterion, however he meets: Except for Heinrich Lübke, all Federal Presidents were Protestant.

Cathcon comment- Huber is the "media bishop" par excellence- now we know why he prefers the tv interviews to the pulpit. His father was the leading Nazi legal expert who spent the post-war years in jail.

Huber has difficulty making a distinctively religious contribution - seen here with Cardinal Lehmann and a football. Fortunately, the nearest he is going to get to world domination, but he may just become President of Germany if he starts making a few speeches to please the Christian Democrats- the party to which the majority of his flock own their allegiance.

And he would have to change his dress for when he meets the Pope.
What could the next career move be for Rowan Williams when he steps down as Archbishop of Canterbury a day surely hastened following his disastrous remarks on sharia law.

Wolfgang Huber, at least, will try to protect Germany from such encroachments on her legal system and has indeed criticised Williams. Huber knows all about how easily the legal system can be corrupted- his father wrote the book "The Legal System of Greater Germany"- a work of reference for the Nazis.
