My mother has a statement that I think would have been appropriate for anyone having to sit through this. It goes like this:
"The things you see when you haven't got your gun!"

My grandfather used to say after a long homily, "I can think of three places he could have stopped."
I sometimes think of this during a homily, but I am fortunate not to have observed many liturgical abuses in my parishes. I have been dragged into Protestant services that seemed to never end.
