I receive an e-mail!
Dear Friends
I want to urge you to consider taking some action concerning the Sexual Orientation Regulations about to be approved in the House of Lords. This could take the form of prayer, fasting and/or participating in the vigil tomorrow evening (see below). These regulations WILL effect every Christian and could mark the start of an era of severe Christian persecution in this country!! Canada and Sweden have passed similar bills and Christians are being arrested, tried & convicted there for stating that the practice of homosexuality is disordered... The mere reading of Romans 1:26, with the interpretation that the practice of homosexuality is sinful, can lead to prosecution under this legislation!!
** WHERE WERE CHRISTIANS WHEN THE ABORTION ACT WAS PASSED IN 1967? SINCE THEN 7 MILLION UNBORN CHILDREN HAVE BEEN ABORTED.
** WHERE WERE CHRISTIANS WHEN ‘NO FAULT DIVORCE’ WAS PASSED BY PARLIAMENT IN 1996?
** WHERE WERE CHRISTIANS WHEN THE ADOPTION ACT 2002 LEGALISED SAME-SEX ADOPTION?
** WHERE WERE CHRISTIANS WHEN THE CIVIL PARTNERSHIPS ACT 2004 PUT HOMOSEXUAL RELATIONSHIPS ON THE SAME FOOTING AS MARRIAGE?
**WHERE WILL YOU BE ON WEDNESDAY 21ST MARCH 2007 WHEN THE SEXUAL ORIENTATION REGULATIONS ARE VOTED ON IN THE HOUSE OF LORDS WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR MAKING IT ILLEGAL TO REFUSE TO PROMOTE HOMOSEXUAL PRACTICES?
100 Mps STAND UP FOR FREEDOM OF CONSCIENCE AS GOVERNMENT PUSH SORs THROUGH COMMONS
20th March2007
Summary
Thank you to all those who were able to contact MPs yesterday in response to our last-minute e-mail. We know that it was through such contact that many MPs who were otherwise unaware of the vote turned up and put it on record that there is great concern in the nation about the Sexual Orientation Regulations.
When the vote was called late yesterday evening, exactly 100 MPs voted to defend freedom of conscience by opposing the Regulations. The Government won by 210 votes, but the strength of the opposition surprised many and the newspapers recognised this with stories today such as “MPs back gay rights Bill despite protests” (see link below).
So, less than 2 weeks since the Regulations were published, the Government have pushed them through 3 Committees and then through a vote, without any debate ever having taken place in the main chamber of the House of Commons. This behaviour by the Government led to the following headline in a national paper: “You’re abusing Parliament over gay vote, Catholic leader tells Blair”.
ACTION: Final House of Lords SOR vote TOMORROW (21st March)
PLEASE COME TO A PRAYER VIGIL OUTSIDE PARLIAMENT AT OLD PALACE YARD (the square opposite the St Stephen’s entrance to the House of Lords) TOMORROW, WEDNESDAY 21ST MARCH FROM 7 TO 9PM WHEN THE FINAL VOTE ON THE SEXUAL ORIENTATION REGULATIONS WILL BE TAKEN IN THE HOUSE OF LORDS. WE PRAY FOR A MIRACLE. HOWEVER, WHATEVER THE OUTCOME IT IS VITAL THAT HISTORY RECORDS CHRISTIANS STANDING FOR TRUTH TO THE VERY END OF THE PARLIAMENTARY PROCESS.
THIS DEBATE TOMORROW IS THE CRUCIAL DEBATE. I BELIEVE IT IS STILL POSSIBLE TO PERSUADE PEERS OF THE LACK OF DEMOCRATIC PROCESS IN BRINGING IN THE SORS AND TO PERSUADE THEM OF GENUINE CONCERNS REGARDING THE CLASH OF FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN FREEDOMS.
For either one or both of these reasons we encourage all Christians who have any contact with a member of the House of Lords, or who can locate a member who lives in their area (see the link to the ‘How to Lobby’ sheet, below), to contact them (by email or telephone) and explain the issues involved. PLEASE ASK THEM TO BE PRESENT IN THE CHAMBER TOMORROW (21ST MARCH) AND TO VOTE FOR BARONESS O’CATHAIN’S MOTION NOT TO APPROVE THE SORS (Please see texts below of the Government’s motion to approve and Baroness O’Cathain’s motion to decline).
Please note that 21 days notice is required to use amplification outside Parliament so it is very unlikely we will be able to obtain permission for such use at the prayer vigil. We intend to use this occasion to make a solemn, prayerful stand for Truth in this Nation.
