Diocese uses hurricane as an excuse

to close Church of the Immaculate Conception.

"The Catholic Church is literally abandoning the community of Forked Island," Broussard says. "The bishop has only heard Father (Bill) Rogalla. The people are begging me to go meet with him because we haven't even been able to tell him anything. He tells his secretary to tell me he's made his decision. He answered me one letter."

A source tells me

"...the Diocese of Lafayette has decided to close down their church, even though there was miminal damage and there are tons of volunteers willing to do the repair work."

The Diocese busies itself writing a mission statement which they do not then live up to when it comes to their dealings with individual parishes.
