Sandpit Church
Welcome to the Church of St Maurice in Lille 
The north aisle has been filled with a pile of dry sand and dead wood. What better symbol could there be of the spiritual desert that the Church has become.
Not least because the way is blocked to the confessionals. (However, the priest does make use of a room for "meet and greet" confessionals).

Now Jerusalem was not inhabited, but was like a desert: there was none of her children that went in or out: and the sanctuary was trodden down
The south aisle has been turned into a photographic exhibition of interiors.
The photographs, as this example shows, have nothing, absolutely nothing to do with Catholicism.
However they do obscure a fine painting showing Carmelite saints.
This is the "liturgical area" in the nave, which strangely lacks an altar.
There is an altar but it is placed way back.
The pulpit from which the Gospel was once preached has become a lighting installation.
If you get tired of the sandpit, there is always the meditation space in front of the High Altar to play in.
One of the sources of the problem; a fundraising poster in the Church. "The Church has 100% need of you". This reversal of the truth, gives a Church that is desperate to please, which forgets that it is the Ark of Salvation. The results can be seen in every corner of the Church of St Maurice.
