Hospital of Notre Dame a la Rose, Lessines Belgium
Augustinian nuns were still living here until the 1980s. The initial plan was to level the whole site for a car park. The museum is fascinating but leaves one with a broken heart for what has been and what might have been.
The title of the Hospital is derived from that of "Rosa Mystica" given to Our Lady in the Litany of Loreto.
The Chapel is next to a long ward, so that it was possible to hear Mass from your sick bed. What a sad contrast with the modern day, when the last years tend to be spent in the company of the television set.
