Statement from Our Lady of Mount Carmel
Its not the Franciscan who is now barefoot; it is members of his flock.
ARCHBISHOP SEAN O'MALLEY OF BOSTON,
MASSACHUSETTS IS FORMING AN EIGHT
MEMBER COMMITTEE TO RE-EXAMINE THE
PROCESS OF CHURCH CLOSINGS.
THE ARCHDIOCESE IS NOT GOING TO REVISIT
THE PARISHES THAT HAVE ALREADY CLOSED.
WHICH WE THINK IS EXTREMELY UNFAIR AND
UNEXCEPTABLE.
THERE ARE MORE PARISHES TO CLOSE.
THIS COMMITTEE IS TRYING TO IMPROVE
THE PROCESS.
OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL PARISH IN
EAST BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS WILL
BE CLOSING ON OCTOBER 12, 2004.
WE HAVE PLEADED WITH ARCHBISHOP
SEAN O'MALLEY TO KEEP OUR BEAUTIFUL
CHURCH OPEN. HE REFUSES TO LISTEN.
HE DOES NOT RETURN CALLS. WE DELIVER
LETTERS THEY SAY THEY NEVER RECEIVE
THEM.
BISHOP LENNON SAID OUR CHURCH SHOULD
REMAIN OPEN. ARCHBISHOP SEAN O'MALLEY
WANTS TO CLOSE THE CHURCH.
THE PARISHIONERS ARE HOPING WE ARE PART
OF THE PROCESS.
WHICH WAS ANNOUNCED 5 DAYS BEFORE
CLOSING.
THE ENTIRE PROCESS OF DECIDING WHICH
PARISHES TO CLOSE WAS FLAWED AND
RUSHED.
ARCHBISHOP SEAN O'MALLEY DID NOT TAKE
THE TIME TO VISIT OUR BEAUTIFUL CHURCH,
AND RECOGNIZE WHAT WE HAVE BEEN
DOING.
WE HAVE ALWAYS PAID, PRAYED AND OBEYED.
ARCHBISHOP O'MALLEY IS A FRANCISCAN.
ST. FRANCIS BUILT CHURCHES. HE IS CLOSING
CHURCHES.
OUR CHURCH DOES NOT MEET ANY CRITERIA
FOR CLOSING.
THE PARISHIONERS ARE SO SADDENED.
THEY CRY EACH DAY. AS A DEVOTION PEOPLE
WALK TO CHURCH BAREFOOT.
HE IS CLOSING A CHURCH WITH SO MUCH
HISTORY, TRADITION AND FAMILY VALUE.
THE PARISHIONERS PRAY EACH DAY FOR
A MIRACLE. MIRACLES DO HAPPEN.
HOW CAN THEY EVEN THINK OF CLOSING
A CHURCH DEDICATED TO OUR LADY.
VERY SAD PARISHIONERS OF
OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL CHURCH.
