German Bishops' Conference (DBK) Queer Commissioner warns against patriarchy and "tradiwives"
Has the Church betrayed its own message for centuries? Auxiliary Bishop Ludger Schepers warns against "tradwives" and emphasizes that sexual diversity is "not a modern construct."
The "tradwives" trend, prevalent on social media, is considered a problem for freedom and equality by Auxiliary Bishop Ludger Schepers.
The German Bishops' Conference's (DBK) queer commissioner, Ludger Schepers, considers a return to traditional gender roles a "dead end." The auxiliary bishop of Essen calls for a change of course by the Catholic Church on gender issues. This was reported by the Catholic News Agency (KNA).
The Church has not only tolerated but actively promoted patriarchal structures for centuries, Schepers explained. This view of humanity has nothing to do with the Christian faith but serves power interests. Anyone who clings to it "betrays its own message." The Church must take a clear stance and cannot accept discrimination.
More programs demanded
"The diversity of human identities—whether homosexual, transgender, or intersex—is not a modern construct but part of God's plan of creation," Schepers told KNA. Exclusion contradicts faith. At the same time, the Auxiliary Bishop of Essen calls for concrete changes. Equality must become visible in everyday church life; existing programs are insufficient.
Schepers also expressed criticism of trends prevalent on social media, such as so-called "tradwives." These represent an "artificial aesthetic without any connection to reality." Behind this often lie political interests that seek to reinforce outdated gender roles. The return to fixed roles for men and women is not a harmless trend, but a problem for freedom and equality.
