Absolute Papal favourite, Bishop of Oran, defends soft treatment of his sexually abusing predecessor
Luis Antonio Scozzina, Bishop of Oran, spoke about the case of his predecessor, Gustavo Zanchetta, convicted of sexual abuse and serving a house arrest in a convent, in statements to Radio CNN Salta.
Why is the Bishop emeritus of Oran, Gustavo Zanchetta, convicted of abuse, serving his home sentence in a convent and not in prison, like other inmates? That is what some victims' groups in the Argentine province of Salta are asking, alleging that it 'smells' of institutional backing, according to InformateSalta.
And the new bishop, Luis Antonio Scozzina, responds in an interview with CNN Salta, recalling that the Church has its own legal channels and that "it does not expel if there is no process".
Asked about the possibility of the bishop emeritus leaving the convent where he is serving his sentence when there is a final judgement, Scozzina explained that "beyond that, beyond a civil conviction, in the Catholic Church what is internal law, what is canon law, which also determines, even in cases of conviction. In the Catholic sphere, the responsibility is also to take care of the person who is condemned, not to expel them".
He indicated that, in a broader sense, in any condemnation, in any situation of a member of the Church, especially a priest, the Church, the Diocese, has the responsibility of care.
"It is an act of charity, and in that sense the gesture I made has to be interpreted. It is a responsibility of care and charity. Moreover, it does not mean that one is not caring for the victims," he explained.
Cathcon: The inexplicable Papally-sponsored protection of the notorious Zanchetta continues. The Church is being run by a Synodalist clique and this is the very dark side of Synodalism.
