Mass of Fools

recorded last year in an Abbey shown on Belgian TV last night. They kid themselves that in the past, such parodies of the Mass were performed with ecclesiastical permission.

Actually, in the past, parodies of Christian ritual were performed at the command of pagan Roman emperors as a kind of opening act before they fed Christians to the lions. This was the case in the life of St. Porphyrios (or Procopius, I can't remember) the Comedian or Actor. He and his cronies did a mockery of Christian baptism for the Emperor. St. Porphyrios was the baptizee. As he was being submerged, he had a vision informing him that he was being baptized in reality. Right then, through God's providence, he became a Christian and confessed Christ before the Emperor, for which he was tortured and killed.
