Addressing the priests of the Diocese, Bätzing, who is also President of the German Bishops' Conference (DBK), said: "I know how much strength the ministry demands from many of you, sometimes to the brink of physical and spiritual exhaustion." He depended on "hearing openly and honestly from you about your priestly life and your personal situation". For they are important leaders of the diocese, he said. "Your ministry and my ministry can only succeed together, only in good cooperation." The number of ordinations to the priesthood in the Church in Germany has been levelling off at a low level for years. According to the latest church statistics published by the DBK, a total of 62 men were ordained priests in Germany in 2021, 48 of them secular and 14 religious priests.

At the Chrism Mass, which traditionally takes place during Holy Week, the holy oils are consecrated for a diocese. These are the catechumen oil for candidates for baptism, the oil for the sick for the administration of the anointing of the sick and the chrism used in the administration of baptism, the sacrament of confirmation and the ordination of priests.

The Bishop is too busy synoding and bishops conferencing and not looking after his own pasture.  Devastated vineyard.   The seminaries that are full are traditionalist and Rome is busy trying to destroy the seminary life in them, while ignoring schism in Germany.  10 years of Francis.  Disaster.
