Synodal Committee begins work in November

First constituent meeting to take place in Essen on 10-11 November 2023

After another 20 members were elected to the Synodal Committee by the Synodal Assembly in March, the date for the constituent meeting has now been set. It will take place from 10 to 11 November 2023 in Essen.

The Synodal Committee consists of the 27 diocesan bishops, 27 members elected by the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK) and a further 20 members subsequently elected by the Synodal Assembly, in accordance with the action text Sustainably Strengthening Synodality adopted by the Synodal Assembly. Following this election by the Synodal Assembly on 11 March 2023, the Synodal Committee is now complete in its composition.

The President of the Central Committee of German Catholics, Dr Irme Stetter-Karp, and the President of the German Bishops' Conference, Bishop Dr Georg Bätzing, who head the Synodal Committee, warmly congratulate the members and thank them for their willingness to participate in this next step on the Synodal Path.
