Sources deny Archbishop Gänswein is going to Costa Rica as Nuntius
The complex affair of the current Prefect of the Papal Household, Archbishop Georg Gänswein, a post that the German prelate has not held for some years (2020), is becoming increasingly tangled. Since the day of the death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, to whom he had served with filial care for many years, various speculations have been written in the press about the archbishop's future, not a few of them strongly critical following the publication of the book Niente altro che la verità in the aftermath of Joseph Ratzinger's death. Between yesterday and today it was said that he will most likely be sent with his consent as Nuncio to Costa Rica. From the various sources we have been able to consult, another version emerges: such an appointment would not be true "also because it is rare that one enters the diplomatic service of the Holy See without having received specific and specialised preparation".
(Cathcon: it did not prevent Annibale Bugnini, the liturgist being sent to Iran as Nuntius when his alleged freemasonic links were discovered. Michael Davies told me that he had talked to the man who discovered the notorious briefcase and he thought the allegations true)
Moreover, other sources add, "the indiscretion has the scent of media manipulation". Finally, other sources consulted specify: 'Relations between the Pope and Mgr Gänswein are cordial and polite, but the Holy Father does not easily forget. Their differences have not completely dissolved'.
The book 'Nothing but the truth' annoyed the Pope greatly. The German prelate defended himself by saying that he had left the manuscript in the hands of the publisher, Piemme (Mondadori), without following its editorial path. When he realised, after the death of the Pope Emeritus, that the publisher was preparing the launch, he tried to stop the circulation of the volume by asking first Gianni Letta and then Marina Berlusconi to intervene, without success. It was already too late.
