Priest who wants to marry woman whom he believes is an "Incarnation of the Holy Spirit" is suspended
Video below shows the priest speaking in tongues during the elevation at Mass. The murky underworld of the new movements as well as charismatic Catholicism promoted after the Council, many of which now have been the cause of scandal. They are but "ersatz" for the traditional orders.
A decision taken against Father Antoine Coelho "for doctrinal and moral reasons", following a "canonical investigation" carried out by the Diocese. The Association led by the priest has also been dissolved.
"He made a personal choice. We can only record his decision and regret it." Monsignor Dominique Rey, the bishop of the diocese of Fréjus-Toulon (Var) was "much surprised" when he learned a few days ago that one of his priests had decided to marry.
This Thursday, the bishop took the decision to suspend Father Antoine Coelho from all religious functions, according to a press release published on the institution's website.
Getting married and starting a family
This is the consequence of a "canonical investigation" carried out following "testimonies" according to which the priest wished "to marry and found a family with a woman of Spanish nationality whom he affirms to be 'the incarnation' of the Holy Spirit".
Facts that the person concerned confirmed with the bishop.
This is a situation that was not very consistent with what is expected of a priest. There is a slippage that has deeply hurt many people.
Monsignor Dominique Rey, bishop
Within the Catholic Church, priests must conform to priestly celibacy for the duration of their ordination. A rule still valid, but which is regularly questioned, in particular to alleviate the crisis of vocations.
"Priest Without Ministry"
“For these doctrinal and moral reasons, Father Antoine Coelho has been suspended and he is prohibited from exercising the priesthood”, continues the press release from the diocese.
Antoine Coelho had been a priest since 2008 and in particular engaged in exorcisms, according to our colleagues from La Croix. From 2012 to 2013, he was chaplain of a prayer group in the Paris region. He then descended to the south to practice, from 2017, within the Var diocese.
"For the moment, he remains with the status of priest without ministry", specifies Monsignor Dominique Rey. The preacher can now challenge this sanction internally and ask to be heard, in relation to Rome.
Community of faithful dissolved
At the same time, the "Maison de l'Esprit-Saint" community, based in Le Castellet and of which Antoine Coelho was the "moderator", was dissolved. It had about ten members, according to La Croix.
Founded on 29 August 2017, this "fraternity" organized "seminars and retreats where the participants [...] are formed in a theoretical and practical way in prayer [and] in evangelization", it was written on the website, now closed.
The Diocese of Fréjus-Toulon has provided them with a listening cell and psychological and spiritual support.
Cathcon: Rome seem to be using this case as an excuse to move against the Bishop.
