Church of Germany....the tolerated schism

Father Santiago Martín praises the Jubilee of Youth and earns of the “Tolerated Schism” in Germany

In his latest video, Father Santiago Martín dedicated a good part of his address to commenting on the recent Jubilee of Youth held in Rome, an event that exceeded all expectations, with more than a million attendees. He highlighted the large number of confessions—more than a thousand priests hearing confessions for hours—and the profound silence during Eucharistic adoration, describing it as “thunderous because of its intensity.” For the priest, the enthusiasm for Pope Leo XIV was reminiscent of that experienced with Saint John Paul II during the Jubilee of 2000: a pope who, in his words, “speaks Catholicly about things Catholic” and who exhorts young people to “aspire to great things,” such as holiness, marriage, consecrated life, and the priesthood.

Key messages from Pope Leo XIV

According to Father Santiago Martín, the Pontiff warned young people about the dangers of allowing themselves to be dominated by digital tools and pointed out Eucharistic adoration as a starting point for building a new world. He emphasized the importance of prayer, confession, the Eucharist, and service to those in need, reminding them that one cannot love God without loving one's neighbor. These words, Martín affirms, "widened the hearts" of many and responded to a deep need to hear a Christ-centered message.

The German case and the Unity of the Church

In the second part of his address, the priest addressed with concern the situation in Germany, where the "blessing" for unmarried couples, including homosexual ones, has divided dioceses: seven have rejected it as contrary to Church teaching, while about twenty have announced that they will implement it. Martín described this division as a "public and evident schism" that cannot be ignored, recalling that the unity called for by Christ can only be built on the truth. He compared this shift to the Anglican Church, where decisions contrary to traditional doctrine have caused profound ruptures.

Call to prayer for the Pope

Father Santiago Martín concluded by urging prayer for Pope Leo XIV, whom he described, quoting Cardinal Arborelius, as "a very good person." He emphasized that unity, the motto of this pontificate, will only be real if fidelity to the truth is maintained, warning that tolerance or the encouragement of error inevitably leads to schism.
